Why Aren't Any Ancient Greeks Protesting?

I'm a total heathen about opera, so I found this, concerning Idomeneo, illuminating. The author comes out in favour of not bowing down to fear, thankfully. But she doesn't ask the obvious: Since Poseidon also gets his head lobbed off in Idomeneo, why isn't anyone worried about angry ancient Greeks?
Update: See Mr. Eclectic for more about the opera in question.

Another amazing thing is that lots of Jews didn't like the idea of Mel's The Passion, but you didn't see churches being burnt down because of it.

Remember "The Last Temptation of Christ"? A theatre was burnt down because of it.

If you actually read my blog, you would see I have little patience for unreasonable Christians.

You know, if someone were to stage a black-and-white minstrel show, I'd be massively offended (I'm not black, I just hate bigotry). I wouldn't bomb the theatre, or commit any act of violence because of it, but I'd certainly understand the resentment it would cause. And I sure wouldn't be in the audience applauding.

Well first of all, no one is asking you to applaud "Idomeneo." Second of all, and more importantly, the comparison of a minstrel show and Idomeneo is ABSURD. Idomeneo features a bunch of religious icons from various religions decapitated. A minstrel show is an utterly different thing -- a racist stereotype of one group of people who were horribly oppressed, that conjures up all sorts of painful historical memories.

With respect, I don't think you're the Gatekeeper of all that is allowed to be considered offensive, and by whom. There is nothing at all "absurd" about the offense felt by different groups of people to different things -- if offense were a rational, unemotional concept the world would be sunshine and rainbows. In other words, would it be ABSURD to claim holocaust denial is less offensive than a minstrel show? See how ABSURD this gets, when you pretend to know the objective truth, and to assign "acceptable" levels of offense to different issues, based on your own biases?

I don't think I said I was the "gatekeeper" of anything. I said a comparison between Idomeneo and a minstrel show was ABSURD. And it is.
